You have to pay for college loans through your social security when you retire!

Joe -2 - www.HowCanIRetire.net

You went to school for a better job when you were younger and then you didn't really ever get a better job.

Maybe you had a good job for a while, but then you got hurt and couldn't work enough to pay your student loan off.

So the years went by, and you never tried to pay off your loan to the government. They contacted you a couple of times, but you didn't reply to them.

You apply for social-security at retirement age and when the check comes it is a lot lower than you expected it to be.
As long as your payment is over $750.00 they will tap into it for their money.

They are taking payments on that old, old loan that you had taken many years ago.

The financial situation could be worse.

There are those folks who had taken government loans for education and racked up a lot of money on the loan.

Shortly after school finished, they got hurt and couldn't work enough to pay the loan. They avoided government attempts to get you to pay.

Later when they try to collect on SSI they find out that the loan is getting paid from the SSI (Social-security) money first, before you get it.

The government sets up a nice little payment plan that takes out just about all of the money that you would use to live on other than very basics.

This sucks!

Yes, it does suck, and it can even get worse!

You co-signed for a student loan for your son or daughter a few years ago, and they should have paid it off by now.

They didn't and now it is coming from your social-security payment every month leaving you nearly destitute.

Aiii Cou de Diablo!

Yes! This is what happens to a lot of folks now.

Since about ten years ago it is getting a lot more intense and people are being tapped into paying off on loans from both themselves and their children.

Be careful when you borrow for a student loan. They don't just go away anymore.
