Four things to remember before retirement

Health care is expensive

Duet - www.HowCanIRetire.net#1 thing! Make sure you keep some healthcare insurance to cover the inevitable problems that come up for 99.99% of folks before they die.

A lot of folks are actually earning $100,000 for a family of three and don't have health insurance.

This becomes a very bad idea even if it costs you $200 a week.

That adds up to $10,400 a year or a little more than 10% of your income.

Most folks aren't really earning that much, but it still pays to keep health insurance on your self and on your family.

I got hit twice with a necessary major open heart surgery, and it cost a bundle, quite nearly $85,000 the last time.

It's green...it's cash

How much money do you need to feel that you have a nice enough nest egg?

Is it $20,000 or $30,000?

Some can save more than others, and it isn't funny if you have nothing at all so keep that in mind.

Your financial changes

Once you retire you have a change in things like planning for social security and pensions that when you had money you could do.

You are not earning what you did and as long as your pension, social-security and what ever other 401K, etc plans you have are not paying off enough to live well then you are in a little trouble.

Money found in your house...literally

Once you stop working you could lose the advantage that you had to re mortgage your home on a smaller income.

One fun thing that you can do with a paid off home though is get a reverse mortgage and take out equity in your last years.

Be careful before you sign anything like a contract to do so because there are scams, and there are honest deals out there. Be sure to get references first.
