Save money
Retire in Cuenca Ecuador!

Save money by living in Cuenca?

Cuenca - Ecuador - www.HowCanIRetire.netYes! Cuenca or "Santa Ana de los cuatro rĂos de Cuenca" as it is formally called is cheaper than most other retirement locations and even if you aren't retiring it is still cheap to live there on savings.

Cuenca was founded on April 12, 1557 by the Spanish explorer Gil Ramirez Davalos.

It became independent from Spain on November 3, 1820, and it is a Spanish style city in Ecuador.

It is currently a UNESCO World Heritage Trust Site because of the older historical buildings.
For those with a little money, it is a good place to retire and save on expenses.

You can actually live there on as low as $850 every month, but $1500 would get you somewhere a bit faster.

You can afford to buy some real estate there for a lot less than most anywhere in the USA.

There are houses for sale for under $1,000 a square yard.

Cuenca has a good amount of real estate that has just been built and condos that are reasonable in it's 350,000 person city.

Local industry and agriculture are the larger economic drivers.

The old world style is just in town but if you have bought a smaller new condo or house you can live a great lifestyle with both opportunities for the local atmosphere and a new home right at hand.

The corruption and poorer infrastructure are a problem to an extent, but you also have much less government intrusion in your lives there along with lower taxes and regulations.

Expats!

Yes, there are a community of expatriates that live there and enjoy the local economy with the American or European lifestyle to boot.

Cuenca has a nice set up for Expats that include theater, restaurants, shopping malls and nightlife. They also have good healthcare facilities.

Aha! The Weather

Cuenca 3 - www.HowCanIRetire.netBecause of it's elevation of 8,000 + feet above the ocean you can get a nice cooler climate.

That is like the springtime would be down below.

The temps in Cuenca are up into the mid 70's F, and it remains somewhat similar year around.

Before you decide to move there to live for retirement, of course check it out with a trip there first, but I think you'd like it.
